Advocacy Snapshot

On Tuesday 8th May 2018 the Federal Government will announce whether it will uphold the current funding provided for the National School Chaplaincy Programme (NSCP).

Currently the NSCP funds more than 3000 School Chaplains in Australia, who play a vital role in school and local communities, providing invaluable social, emotional and spiritual support to children, young people and their families. Importantly, this program is a strong example of one way the Christian church is able to effectively reach out and support their local communities and play a role in shaping the lives of young people.

I urge you to join hundreds of thousands of Christians across Australia by asking your friends, family and church family to have a short time of prayer over the weekend 9-11th February, for the continuation of funding for School Chaplaincy in Australia.

We’re asking you personally, plus all our board, staff, chaplains, support groups, SRI volunteers, prayer partners, churches, religious organisations and communities of faith to pull together to ensure the Chaplaincy Program is always available for our children in Australian schools and the best place to start is on our knees!

1. PRAYER POINTS

Pray for children in Australian schools – that they will be supported.
Pray for our School Chaplains – for their ability to provide effective support to students and school communities.
Pray for our politicians who are currently deciding if the current funding model for Chaplaincy will be extended.
Pray for deep supportive connections between the church and School Chaplains.
But ultimately, pray for God’s will to be done in this circumstance.

2. ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN

We are praying that we can encourage you and your wider community to write letters of support for the School Chaplaincy program, to the following individuals:

The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Prime Minister, Parliament House, CANBERRA ACT 2600
The Hon Scott Morrison MP, Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia, PO Box 6022, House of Representatives, Parliament House, CANBERRA ACT 2600
The Hon Simon Birmingham MP, Federal Education Minister, Parliament House, CANBERRA ACT 2600

Please click on the 2017 Snapshot below showing the facts and activities along with the unmeasurable relationship value that the Chaplains bring to their school community and beyond the gate, into community.

Success from your practical action would mean the continuation of this vital program, which supports more than 3000 schools and communities across Australia and assists in meeting the growing needs of students, families, schools and communities alike.

My prayer is that you will encourage your Christian networks to take action. Our trust rests in God and for His provision, but that does not mean we sit silently. The campaign offers an opportunity for us all to raise a united voice in support of a program that is transformational for so many in our local communities.

We have taken the liberty of providing you with a church bulletin resource that you may like to use, if you are in a position to do so.

Please contact us if you wish to discuss this opportunity further.
