Through SRI, ACCESS ministries is enriching children's lives.

ACCESS ministries serves students and school communities in Victorian government schools by providing Christian Special Religious Instruction (SRI), which for many years was known colloquially as Christian Religious Education (CRE) but at the request of the Department is now referred to as SRI.

ACCESS ministries provides SRI under the provisions of the Victorian Education and Training Reform Act (2006) and in compliance with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) Service Agreement and School Policy and Advisory Guide (SPAG) for SRI.

We believe that our Christian SRI program provides significant educational benefits for students who participate. The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (2008) outlines goals for students to be successful learners, confident and creative individuals and active and informed citizens. Such students:
- Have a sense of self-worth, self-awareness and personal identity that enables them to manage their emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing
- Have a sense of optimism about their lives and the future
- Develop personal values and attributes such as honesty, resilience, empathy and respect for others
- Act with moral and ethical integrity
- Work for the common good, in particular sustaining and improving natural and social environments.

Our Christian SRI program reinforces the value of each individual student, fostering their enquiry and reflection about spiritual matters and the tenets of the Christian faith and how it may pertain to them. Our program actively focuses on the development of personal and community values, such as integrity, resilience, empathy and respect. Through our program, thousands of volunteer SRI instructors invest in participating students’ lives and learning, fostering students’ sense of their own high value and creating another point of engagement with a meaningful adult.

Volunteer SRI Instructors present the Christian SRI program using ACCESS ministries materials. These materials were developed using the previous Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) framework as a reference point, particularly in regards to developmental levels, values and broad educational themes. The ACCESS ministries Christian SRI materials aim to be biblically faithful, educationally sound, student focused, theologically clear and contextually appropriate. Throughout the material, connections are suggested between the biblical teaching and the values that are promoted in the school.
